Working artists must sometimes take on editorial assignments, commissioned work or operate under the supervision of an art director or client. They must therefore be able to work within the confines of set parameters and with the input of other people while also bringing their own unique ideas to a final project. For this assignment, students are directed to create a composite image illustrating a piece of text—in this case, one of 10 news, feature or human interest articles published the week the assignment is given. This can be a collage or photomontage, literal or figurative. Technical requirements for skills assessment include using a minimum of three separate images in separate layers, three clipping masks, three layer masks and three adjustment layers.
